There are so many ways you can aid the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.  All monetary donations are recognized with a letter from the Friends sent to you at the end of each year for tax purposes.

  • Donate to cover the costs for sacred texts and support the library

  • Donate large or expensive items for sale at a local Stuff Store

Fund-raising Activities

All-year-round, we share the good times with Smokey Row.  By purchasing a Smokey Row gift card, you receive $10 worth of good food, (and a good time with your friends), the Friends receive $3 for each gift card sold. Contact us at FrndsLibBlindPH@gmail.com. Wintertime is the right time for our Jolly Time at Java Joe’s.  This holiday event is held at the Department for the Blind downtown Des Moines and features local barbershop quartets.  Look for details in the fall Among Friends.

Another all-year-round fund-raiser is our involvement with the STUFF Stores in Iowa.  You can find them in Ankeny, Cedar Rapids, Clive, Coralville, Davenport, Iowa City, and Waterloo.  Members and non-members can contribute gently used items or unused items to the STUFF Store just by mentioning that your donation is to benefit The Friends of the Iowa Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.  It's a win-win for everyone involved!  You find a home for items you no longer need and The Friends and the Library benefit from your generosity!  Please send us an e-mail at FrndsLIbBlindPH@gmail.com to let us know that you have made a donation, so we can thank you.  (Copy the e-mail address into your contacts, please or use the form on the Volunteer page to send us a message.)
